A land running out of space
The world surrounding Ar tonelico's second tower suffers from shrinking habitable territory and escalating conflict between Grand Bell and the Sacred Army. Croix, a Grand Bell knight, is assigned to restrain Reyvateils afflicted by the I.P.D. condition. His rescue of the Holy Maiden Cloche pulls him into the political and personal secrets surrounding the legendary song Metafalica, believed capable of creating new land.
The people behind the prophecy
Luca and Cloche become central to Metafalica, while Croix learns that familiar factions have distorted the meaning of their promised salvation. The epidemic, the Infel Phira system and the Reyvateils' inner worlds reveal histories hidden behind institutions that claim to speak for everyone. Jacqli also carries connections to earlier events and the tower's deeper history.
Infel, Nenesha and a failed dream
Luca and Cloche discover their hidden family connection and that both must sing as the complementary Maidens for Metafalica to succeed. Infel, a previous Maiden whose attempt with Nenesha failed four centuries earlier, survived as a consciousness within Infel Phira and maintained a dangerous plan to free humanity by converting it into a different form of existence. Jacqli's discoveries and the journey to Sol Marta expose the supposed divine authority over the tower as a much more human tragedy.
Ending explained: two songs for a new land
Croix's companions oppose the attempt at mass Sublimation, confront Infel and Nenesha's combined will, and make it possible for Luca and Cloche to perform the genuine Metafalica. The promised new land is no longer an excuse for one faction to dominate the people who need it. In the epilogue Croix's chosen relationships receive different conclusions—Luca, Cloche, Jacqli and a separate default outcome are possible. The central story ends with the possibility of a new home, not with all Reyvateils surrendering their lives to another imposed salvation.
