The Solstice Warriors' mission
Valere and Zale train as Solstice Warriors, able to wield Eclipse Magic against the monstrous Dwellers created by the Fleshmancer. Their childhood friend Garl accompanies them, giving the quest warmth beyond its ancient prophecies. After a victory against the Dweller of Woe, the fellow warriors Erlina and Brugaves betray them and unleash a still greater threat.
Resh'an and the world beyond
The party joins the mysterious assassin Seraï and eventually meets Resh'an, an immortal alchemist who once worked alongside the Fleshmancer. Their dispute spans multiple worlds: the Fleshmancer spreads monstrous corruption, while Resh'an guides warriors who may eventually become guardian gods. Seraï's secret is that she comes from a distant technological world scarred by the Fleshmancer's acts.
Garl's sacrifice and the last journey
The Fleshmancer intervenes when his plans are threatened and fatally wounds Garl. Resh'an postpones the inevitable just long enough for Garl to help secure a way across the Sea of Stars. His death becomes the party's emotional turning point as they travel into Seraï's world to confront their enemy's creations.
Ending explained: regular and true conclusions
In the normal ending the party overcomes the Fleshmancer's transformed servant Erlina, and Valere and Zale become guardian gods after confronting a World Eater. Completing the additional requirements allows a more complete ending: the heroes use a time-travel device to save Garl by substituting B'st in his place during the fatal episode. Garl later challenges the Fleshmancer himself, and the twins return to visit him after ascending. The true ending restores the friendship the first conclusion could only mourn.
