An attacked holiday turns into a galactic mystery
Fayt Leingod is separated from his family and friends when an attack interrupts a visit to the resort planet Hyda IV. His attempts to find them take him to less technologically developed worlds, especially Elicoor II, where local wars complicate the search. Sophisticated forces pursue him because his abilities and those of his companions are tied to an experiment whose full purpose he does not understand.
Symbological powers and Executioners
Fayt's powerful Destruction ability, Sophia's Connection power and Maria's Alteration ability originate in genetic and symbological experiments. Strange Executioners threaten the entire universe, and familiar Federation assumptions begin to break down. The heroes discover that their reality is not the ultimate physical realm its inhabitants imagined.
4D Space and Luther
The party reaches 4D Space, where their universe is revealed to be the Eternal Sphere, a sophisticated simulation built and operated by Sphere Company. Administrator Luther Lansfeld intends to erase the simulated world when its inhabitants and intrusions threaten his control. For Fayt and the others, this is an existential crisis: everything they love is being treated as expendable data.
Ending explained: existence beyond permission
The heroes confront and defeat Luther rather than accept deletion. Although the Eternal Sphere faces collapse, its people and relationships persist beyond the system's original control; their world exists through its own continuity, not merely because a developer permits it. Character-specific epilogue scenes vary with relationships, but the shared ending rejects the idea that a simulated origin makes the lives inside it unreal.
