Starting as junior Bracers
Estelle Bright and her adopted brother Joshua complete their early Bracer training in Rolent and begin travelling across Liberl. Their initial work involves missing people, trouble on the roads and disputes among ordinary citizens. The journey gradually introduces Scherazard, Olivier, Agate, Kloe, Tita and Zin while making Liberl's regions feel connected.
An unfolding political conspiracy
The Bracer cases reveal suspicious activities around the army and the kingdom's orbal technology. Colonel Alan Richard and his Intelligence Division pursue a coup, supposedly to protect Liberl from foreign threats. The party learns that the conspiracy involves manipulations of the royal family and deeper secrets concerning ancient artefacts and the sealed Aureole.
The Queen and the coup
Estelle and Joshua cooperate with allies to rescue the royal family and prevent Richard's forces from seizing power. Richard's genuine concern for his country has been twisted into an authoritarian answer to danger; the coup is defeated, and the kingdom appears to return to peace. The characters' bonds have made the victory feel earned rather than merely military.
Ending explained: Joshua leaves
Professor Alba reveals himself as Georg Weissmann, an Ouroboros leader who has manipulated events from behind the scenes. Joshua remembers that he was once an assassin used by Weissmann, with traumatic memories deliberately suppressed. Convinced that his past will endanger Estelle, he confesses his love, puts her to sleep and disappears. Estelle's determination to find him becomes the emotional engine of Second Chapter.
