After the academy falls

Cold Steel II begins immediately after the civil-war outbreak at the end of the first game. Rean has been carried to safety by Valimar after a crushing confrontation with Crow. He returns to find his classmates scattered and Erebonia divided between the Imperial Army and Noble Alliance. Reuniting Class VII becomes the first priority before the group can take meaningful action in the war.

The Courageous and the third way

With access to the airship Courageous, the reunited class travels across the country helping civilians and old allies while trying not to become a simple instrument of either faction. The academy relationships now matter because noble, commoner and military students have family ties on opposite sides of the conflict. Beneath the war, Ouroboros and older supernatural conspiracies continue advancing their plans.

The Infernal Castle and Crow

The final confrontation moves to the Infernal Castle and the Divine Knights. Rean finally faces Crow, whose identity as the terrorist leader C and his role in the civil war have made friendship inseparable from betrayal. Crow dies after helping defeat the crisis, leaving Rean and his friends unable to celebrate victory as a simple reunion.

Ending explained: Osborne returns

Chancellor Osborne, whom Crow supposedly assassinated, reappears alive and reveals that Rean is his biological son. Rufus Albarea is exposed as an Ironblood working for Osborne. The Empire uses the aftermath of the war to extend its power over Crossbell. Class VII's student chapter comes to an end, but the larger political story is increasingly controlled by forces whose intentions they do not yet understand.
