A city caught between empires

Lloyd Bannings and the Special Support Section resume their work in Crossbell as pressure from Erebonia and Calvard reaches a crisis. Mayor Dieter Crois champions independence, but the political movement hides a plan by the Crois family and its allies to replace the ancient Sept-Terrion of Mirage with a new artificial power.

KeA becomes the centre of the conspiracy

KeA, the child rescued in Trails from Zero, is the key to their plan. Through the Azure-Zero project her astonishing powers can protect Crossbell and alter reality itself. When foreign armies threaten the city, KeA's power produces overwhelming defensive weapons and Crossbell briefly appears capable of forcing the great powers to respect it. The SSS is arrested as the new order hardens into control.

The Azure Tree and the rewritten past

Lloyd escapes imprisonment and reunites the SSS. The group reaches the Azure Tree and confronts Mariabell Crois, who reveals that KeA can rewrite the course of events. At the end of Trails from Zero the SSS originally died during the final battle; KeA changed that outcome. Mariabell also claims KeA manipulated their affection to secure their love, hoping to make the party reject her.

Ending explained: choosing the imperfect world

The SSS defeats KeA's transformed Sept-Terrion state, and Lloyd persuades her that their bond is meaningful even if her power influenced the circumstances of their meeting. She gives up that power rather than erase herself. The conspiracy collapses, yet independence does not immediately follow: Erebonia annexes Crossbell, forcing its people into another difficult chapter. The personal victory is saving KeA without sacrificing everyone's freedom for a manufactured ideal.
