Sylvando, Erik, Veronica and the wider party carry a substantial amount of the game's humour and emotional weight
The original 3D release and later S edition both have strong Toriyama-inspired art direction
The Definitive Edition's orchestral soundtrack is a major improvement over the original synth-only presentation

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age — Definitive Edition
XI S is the definitive content version: it adds character-specific scenarios, orchestral music, Japanese voices, 2D mode, Tickington and battle-speed options. The original 2017/2018 3D release can look sharper on PS4/PC, but lacks the S content and quality-of-life additions.
Extra character stories
2D mode and Tickington
Orchestral soundtrack
Battle speed controls and additional voice options
Some versions of XI S use assets derived from the Switch edition rather than the sharper original PS4/PC release
