The tower of a broken world

Survivors on Sol Ciel live around the tower Ar tonelico and nearby floating settlements after ancient disasters destroyed much of their civilisation. When a strange virus attacks Platina, Lyner Barsett leaves in search of a solution and falls to the lower world. The Reyvateil Aurica saves him, beginning a journey among communities whose traditions and surviving technology are tied to Song Magic.

Misha, Shurelia and the system

Lyner becomes involved with Misha, who carries crucial responsibilities associated with the tower's power, and Shurelia, whose role is more than that of an ordinary authority figure. Diving into the Cosmospheres of Reyvateils allows personal fears and histories to become part of the mission. The group discovers that the current crisis is connected to Mir and a long history of hostility between Reyvateils and humans.

Mir's bitterness

Mir's destructive actions are rooted in mistreatment and accumulated resentment rather than simple desire for chaos. What initially looks like an invasive virus reveals a wounded intelligence whose power can devastate the entire ecosystem of the tower. Lyner's companions must decide whether destroying Mir is an adequate answer to a history that helped create her hatred.

Ending explained: branching resolutions

Several endings are possible, determined by the Aurica or Misha route, whether the story continues into its third phase and the completion of Shurelia's Cosmosphere. Shorter endings stop after the immediate threat is beaten. The fuller resolution offers a chance to confront Mir's true feelings, reject an easy cycle of violence and choose a future for both humans and Reyvateils. Lyner's final partner is also a player-dependent choice, not a fixed canon for every playthrough.
