The exorcism and the curse
After the events of Shadow Hearts, Yuri lives with the loss of Alice. In an alternate First World War, a confrontation with a group using holy power brands him with a curse that threatens to destroy his memories. He travels with Karin and an eccentric group of allies while searching for a way to survive and opposing forces using ancient supernatural powers.
Astaroth and Kato
The plot moves through Europe and Japan, exposing schemes involving Rasputin, the spirit Astaroth and the machinations of the Japanese military. Kato, grieving his own losses, becomes increasingly determined to remake the world rather than accept it. The death of Ouka and the suffering of those around him deepen his despair.
Alice's failed resurrection
Yuri and his companions try to resurrect Alice using the Émigré Manuscript. She briefly returns and affirms her feelings before the ritual collapses. Kato has anticipated the ritual's distortion of time and plans to exploit the same power to travel backward and rewrite history completely.
Ending explained: Karin, Anne and Yuri
The party defeats Kato as he attempts to reshape time. Depending on the ending, Yuri either survives with his memories consumed or chooses death and is reunited with Alice, returning to the moment their story began. Karin is sent backward to 1887, meets Yuri's father and takes the name Anne—becoming Yuri's mother. The time-loop revelation reframes her affection for Yuri as part of the story's tangled lineage.
