A plague in a small kingdom
Roddick Farrence, Millie Chliette and Dorne Murtough protect their home on the planet Roak until a mysterious disease begins petrifying people. Their efforts to find a cure seem hopeless until the Federation crew of Ronyx J. Kenny and Ilia Silvestri arrives from space. The technology the visitors possess cannot simply erase the infection.
The journey into Roak's past
The group discovers that the blood of the ancient demon Asmodeus may provide the cure. Because Asmodeus is already dead in their era, they use an ancient time gate to travel centuries into Roak's past. The mission risks altering history, and companions met along the way reveal how the planet's political and magical conflicts developed.
The Demon World and Asmodeus
Roddick and his friends pursue the source of the needed blood through dangerous regions and confront Asmodeus at his stronghold. Their encounter brings them into direct conflict with advanced knowledge and experimentation that ancient Roak could only interpret as supernatural. They obtain the sample while attempting to preserve the history they know.
Ending explained: returning with the cure
The party returns to its own time, where the sample allows the scientists to make a cure for the petrification. The people of Roak are saved, and Roddick and Millie must reconcile their ordinary lives with the vast technological civilisation they have glimpsed. The fates and relationships of optional recruits vary with character events, but the story's fixed resolution is the successful rescue of their world from the disease.
