The Lance of Kresnik

Medical student Jude Mathis enters a research facility and discovers a machine draining spirits to power a weapon. He meets Milla Maxwell, whose connection to the Lord of Spirits makes the experiment intolerable, and accompanies her after the Lance of Kresnik strips her of the Four Great Spirits. Their journey through Rieze Maxia draws in Alvin, Elize, Rowen and Leia.

The Schism between two worlds

The group discovers that Rieze Maxia is separated from the technologically advanced Elympios by a barrier created by Maxwell. Elympios relies heavily on spyrix devices that consume spirits, while Rieze Maxia's humans rely on a different relationship with them. The conflicts between Rashugal and Auj Oule are caught up in this larger imbalance, and the terrorist organisation Exodus seeks to breach the barrier.

Milla, Maxwell and Gaius

Milla apparently sacrifices herself while helping stop Exodus, but later returns in a new existence as a spirit. Jude confronts Maxwell's refusal to open the world because of the danger spyrix presents. King Gaius and Muzét seize the power needed to preserve the Schism, convinced that separation is safer than trusting people to change.

Ending explained: connection without exploitation

Jude and his companions defeat Gaius and Muzét and persuade Maxwell to end the Schism. Both worlds must now confront their differences openly. Research into spyrite technology offers a less destructive alternative to spyrix, and Jude devotes himself to that work. Milla assumes Maxwell's responsibilities while Gaius helps unite Rieze Maxia. The ending favours the difficult work of coexistence over permanent isolation.
