The Monado and Fiora's fate
Shulk lives on the Bionis, one of two enormous Titans locked in an ancient struggle. When Mechon attack Colony 9, Fiora appears to die and Shulk takes up the mysterious Monado to pursue the attackers. Its visions reveal dangerous future events, and companions from different peoples join Shulk as he tries to protect them.
Fiora and the Mechonis
The party discovers that Face Mechon contain living pilots and that Fiora is alive, joined to the will of Meyneth, the opposing god of the Mechonis. Egil's war against Bionis is rooted in ancient suffering at the hands of Zanza, not mindless hatred. As Shulk learns these truths, revenge begins to give way to the possibility of ending both peoples' fear.
Zanza's real design
Dickson betrays the group, shooting Shulk and releasing Zanza, who had used Shulk as his vessel. Zanza destroys the Mechonis, kills Meyneth and seeks to recycle life on Bionis so that his own divinity will never be forgotten. Alvis reveals an even older origin: Zanza and Meyneth were scientists named Klaus and Galea, transformed by an experiment that created this universe.
Ending explained: a world without gods
Shulk overcomes Zanza and uses his new Monado to defeat the god. Alvis offers him the opportunity to assume divine rule, but Shulk rejects that future and wishes for a world where people can choose their own destiny without gods. The world is remade for those who survived, and Fiora is restored to her human form. The story closes not with Shulk taking Zanza's throne but with everyone being free of it.
