Lauriam / Marluxia
Strelitzia's brother
Story and background
Lauriam's search for his missing sister drives him through the Union χ conspiracy. He later reappears in the modern era as Marluxia, unaware of much of his earlier identity.
Events and connections in the series
A fourth young wielder, Strelitzia, had been chosen as one of the leaders who would guide the Dandelions after the war. She wanted to warn the Player and bring them to safety. She never got the chance. A bodiless Darkness entered Ventus, a boy who had not intended to kill anyone, and used him in the murder of Strelitzia. The entity then manipulated events so that Ventus took Strelitzia's place among the new leaders. Strelitzia's brother Lauriam was left to search for a sister who had seemingly vanished.
This is not a detached ancient subplot. Ventus will later become one of Sora's closest connections. Lauriam will later emerge in the present era under a very different name. And Strelitzia's loss will become relevant again when we reach Quadratum. To understand those later scenes, remember the underlying tragedy: Ventus was used as a vessel; Lauriam lost his sister; the person meant to lead the survivors was removed before the new world even began.
The five new Union leaders were Ephemer, Skuld, Brain, Lauriam, and Ventus. They met after the war, but Ventus did not belong on the original list. Their new home appeared to be a restored Daybreak Town. Their fellow Dandelions carried on with familiar missions, yet something essential was missing: the ordinary wielders no longer remembered the terrible war. That amnesia was by design.
Historical context
The ancient Keyblade era is remembered through competing accounts of prophecy, the Foretellers and the Dandelions. Individual motivations matter because the Master of Masters assigns different responsibilities that the apprentices do not fully understand. The consequences reach far beyond the first Keyblade War.
