Strelitzia

Story and background

Chosen as a future Union leader, Strelitzia is murdered before she can take her place. Her absence becomes central to the leadership mystery; later material places her near Sora in Quadratum.

Events and connections in the series

A fourth young wielder, Strelitzia, had been chosen as one of the leaders who would guide the Dandelions after the war. She wanted to warn the Player and bring them to safety. She never got the chance. A bodiless Darkness entered Ventus, a boy who had not intended to kill anyone, and used him in the murder of Strelitzia. The entity then manipulated events so that Ventus took Strelitzia's place among the new leaders. Strelitzia's brother Lauriam was left to search for a sister who had seemingly vanished.

This is not a detached ancient subplot. Ventus will later become one of Sora's closest connections. Lauriam will later emerge in the present era under a very different name. And Strelitzia's loss will become relevant again when we reach Quadratum. To understand those later scenes, remember the underlying tragedy: Ventus was used as a vessel; Lauriam lost his sister; the person meant to lead the survivors was removed before the new world even began.

This new Daybreak Town was a data reconstruction. At first it offered the appearance of safety, an entire society continuing in a simulation. Yet data worlds in Kingdom Hearts are not harmless computer screens. Hearts, memories, and darkness can all influence what happens inside them. Glitches began appearing. The leaders searched for explanations, and Lauriam struggled to discover what happened to Strelitzia. Brain noticed discrepancies in the leadership plan. Eventually the truth came out: a Darkness had removed Strelitzia, impersonated Ava, and arranged for Ventus to join the leaders.

Historical context

The ancient Keyblade era is remembered through competing accounts of prophecy, the Foretellers and the Dandelions. Individual motivations matter because the Master of Masters assigns different responsibilities that the apprentices do not fully understand. The consequences reach far beyond the first Keyblade War.
